YOLO JAPAN launches "YOLO HOME," a multilingual real estate site for foreigners
Providing listings for 50,000 properties focused in Tokyo and Osaka with support in 11 languages
YOLO JAPAN Co., Ltd., which operates Japan's largest media platform for foreigners living in Japan (CEO: Taisuke Kaji, Osaka headquarters: Naniwa Ward, Osaka City, hereinafter "YOLO JAPAN"), announced the launch of "YOLO HOME," a multilingual real estate site listing properties for foreigners, starting August 12, 2020.
According to the results of a survey conducted on June 25, 2019 by the Administrative Evaluation Bureau of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications among foreigners working and studying in Japan, the most popular answer regarding the "shortcomings and difficulties of the living environment in Japan" was that it is difficult to secure a place to live. In light of this fact, YOLO JAPAN conducted surveys among foreigners living in Japan over a period of two years to find out what exactly the difficulties were.
According to our findings, 43% (225 people) of the respondents who have tried to find a room or a house in Japan have been turned down for being a foreigner, meaning that around one in every two foreigners has been refused a place to live because of their nationality. Furthermore, 44% (231 people) of the respondents felt that the contract process was complicated, indicating a need for multilingual support.
In response to this, "YOLO HOME" offers foreigners a platform to find properties where they will be allowed to live, and connects them with real estate agencies who offer support in multiple languages to eliminate difficulties in the contract process. As a result, even foreigners who are not fluent in Japanese can easily go through the process, without the usual diffficulties of finding a place to live in Japan. Additionally, YOLO HOME has listings for company dormitories, so the site can be used by anyone from individuals to companies.
■ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) efforts
Through YOLO HOME, YOLO JAPAN eliminates nationality-based discrimination in housing, which will increase the number of foreign workers living in rural areas and in turn promote regional revitalization, thus supporting sustainable development goals.
