What is a Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT)?
It is a test to check your Japanese level. It can be taken twice a year.
There are 5 levels from N1 to N5. The easiest level is N5 and the most difficult level is N1.

N5 : Greetings Level
・You need to be able to read/write hiragana and katakana
・You need to be able to read/write about 120 kanji such as 「学校(がっこう)」and「時間(じかん)」
・You need to be able to listen/speak simple and short sentences
N4 : Easy Conversation Level
・You need to be able to read/write about 300 kanji such as 「料理(りょうり)」and「勉強(べんきょう)」
・You need to be able to make slow conversation
N3 : Daily Conversation Level
・You need to be able to read/write about 700 kanji such as「関係(かんけい)」and「必要(ひつよう)」
・You need to be able to connect sentences and listen/speak long sentences
N2 : Business Level
・You need to be able to read/write about 1,000~1,300 kanji such as「帰宅(きたく)」and「機械(きかい)」
・You need to be able to listen/speak naturally
N1 : Native Level
・You need to be able to read/write about 2,000 kanji such as「捕獲(ほかく)」and「認識(にんしき)」
・You need to be able to listen/speak naturally, and understand difficult words on the news channel
