①What is a residence card/certificate?
This is a card that is issued to medium and long-term foreign residents of Japan.
Basic personal information such as the resident's name, residency status and period of stay, as well as the resident's photograph are printed on the card.

①Status:
Residency status: this indicates the residency status that you have been granted.
②Work restrictions:
this indicates whether you are allowed to work.
If you have been granted permission to work, you may work at a job that falls within your visa category.
If you have not been granted permission to work, you generally cannot get a job.
③Period of stay:
You may stay in Japan until the date printed on your residence card. If this date is approaching or has already passed, you should renew your card as soon as possible.
④Permission to Engage in Activity other than that Permitted by the Staus of Residence Previously Granted:
even if you have not been granted permission to work, this gives you special permission to work certain jobs.
※Only available under certain visa categories.
This is a document that is issued to non-Japanese who have been granted a Designated Activities/Specified Skills visa. It is stapled inside the non-Japanese's passport. During their stay in Japan, the non-Japanese may participate only in activities listed on the certificate.
How to look at a certificate of residence
The certificate shows which activities you are allowed to engage in while you are in Japan. If you have a Designated Activities visa, the certificate will show which of the 46 types of designated activities you have been granted permission to engage in. For example, you may be granted permission for a working holiday, job hunting, or an internship. If you have a Specified Skills visa, the certificate will show which of the 14 fields of work you are allowed to work in.

③Things to remember when applying for a part-time job
If your visa category is student, dependent, designated activities (working holiday), or working visa,
there are some things you should watch out for when working part-time.
In general, you are not allowed to work. However, if you obtain a "Permission to Engage in Activity other than that Permitted under the Status of Residence Previously Granted" stamp on the back of your residence card, you are allowed to work up to 28-hours per week while attending school (excludes business related to the nightlife industry). You are allowed to work up to 8-hours per day during the holidays.

You are allowed to work without work restrictions (excludes business related to the nightlife industry).
(engineer, specialist in humanities, international services, highly skilled professional, etc.)
You may work within the scope of your status of residence (in this case, you do not need to obtain Permission to Engage in Activity other than that Permitted under the Status of Residence Previously Granted). Obtaining Permission to Engage in Activity other than that Permitted under the Status of Residence Previously Granted in order to work part-time in another industry not within the scope of your status of residence would be extremely difficult.
